Why indirect paddle drying beats hot-air drying for sludge
In a paddle dryer the product never touches the heating gas. Heat flows conduction-first from the heated paddles and trough into the wet mass, so:
- Energy stays in the product. No hot exhaust stream carries your heat away — paddle dryers routinely achieve the lowest kg-steam-per-kg-water-evaporated of any industrial dryer type.
- Dust and odour are contained. Only a small vapour stream leaves the machine, easy to condense and scrub.
- Sticky, pasty feeds are handled. Paddle self-cleaning action prevents product build-up where flash and fluid-bed dryers fail.
- Small footprint. The same duty fits in a fraction of the area a direct dryer needs.

Construction details that decide uptime
Trough and rotors
W-shape jacketed trough with two counter-rotating hollow shafts carrying overlapping paddle elements. Paddle overlap is engineered per feed — tighter for sticky cakes, wider for granular sludge — so the machine self-cleans instead of scaling up.
Heating system
Rotary joints feed steam or thermic fluid into both shafts and the jacket. Condensate is removed by siphon pipes and steam-trap sets; we can supply the full heating skid (condensate recovery included) or connect to your existing boiler header.
Vapour and sealing
A domed cover channels vapour to the condenser/scrubber. For solvent-wet or odorous feeds we build closed systems running under slight vacuum or nitrogen blanket with solvent-recovery condensers.
Discharge
Overflow-weir discharge for continuous plants gives a stable product bed depth; bottom gate discharge for batch work. Rotating discharge valves, cooling screws and bagging stations are supplied as required.
